Ampleforth College has had a long tradition of keeping and maintaining a pack of beagles. These (let’s face it, far too cute) floppy-eared friends are known for their incredible sense of smell, and, given their diminutive size, amazing stamina. They made excellent scent hounds.
Each July, when the College students and staff went their separate way for summer break, their irresistible band of beagles was cared by local families. This special cup in our collection is a reminder of this unusual story. It was awarded in 1928 to ‘Galloway’ as the best puppy.
