This charming relic dates from the 1940s and a time heavily impacted by the legacy of Second World War rationing. In an era when materials like rubber and metal were as rare as hen's teeth (and eggs), a government campaign encouraged us to ‘Make Do and Mend’.
And make do, they did! This scooter might not have been a top-of-the-line model, but it would have made a treasured gift at the time. Crafted by her illustrious Uncle Jack upon his return from the frontlines, this scooter must have been wheeled proudly by little Judith Ann Kneeshaw.
It’s also a wonderful example of what can be achieved by recycled materials! The hinges were even repurposed from old window latches. It definitely has a large dollop of character and we bet it has seen its fair share of adventures...
