This lovely piece was once thought to be crafted from real 'blonde' tortoiseshell, making it a luxury item. But in the world of imitation and trickery, not everything is necessarily as it seems. There were plenty of tortoiseshell imitations around, often made from stretched, stained, and painted horn, or even from celluloid, which was the very first thermoplastic.
Despite combing the history books, we don’t know if our delicate comb is for real or a fake. Regardless of its true identity, we think it’s very sweet.
