This doll, once cherished by Lily Wilson of Wombleton, holds a special place in history. During WW1, young Lily was a pillar of the community, helping soldiers by reading and penning their heartfelt letters home. We believe that this lovely doll was given to her as a heartfelt thank-you gift.
Despite its age, the doll is in remarkable condition, lovingly preserved for generations. Its delicate features hint at its possible role as a decorative piece rather than a plaything. With its wax head, cloth body, and delicate leather hands, we think Lily’s doll is rather special and so did its owners. Before coming to the museum, it was stored carefully in a box and taken out for a clean each spring.
Now, it’s coming back out to charm an adopter. Perhaps that could be you?
