Smoking cap, anyone? Ours is a soft, velvety brown with embroidery and even a decorative tassel. (You don’t get much more fancy than a decorative tassel!) These caps were the go-to fashion accessory in the latter part of the 19th century, sported by gentlemen who liked to keep their hair smelling fresh as a daisy and complement their smoking jacket too, of course.
Some lucky men were gifted handmade caps from their lady-folk, with ornate designs befitting of their affection, often influenced by Middle Eastern styles.
Best of all, you didn’t even need to smoke in order to wear one. Some people just wore them for the glamour, because, let's face it, why wouldn’t you?
