We think the unassuming little workshop of the wheelwright needs a rather big shoutout. Next time your life seems to be rolling along smoothly, spare a thought for the humble wheelwrights who mastered the art of wheel-making so that we could save our legs.

Imagine a world without wheels? Actually, don’t bother. Such horror is inconceivable! Instead, think of the wheelwright as the special hub around which the rest of us revolve like spokes. As if that weren’t enough, the wheelwright was required to make and repair a range of essential farm tools too – so that farmers could work and the rest of us could eat – using basic woodworking equipment as well as his own special paraphernalia. What a legend. (Ok, we’ll stop now.)
